PE Composites Appoint Certification Authority for New Lightweight Cabins
PE Composites (PEC) are pleased to announce the engagement of Lloyds Register EMEA as the Certifying Authority for their latest LiteCabTM lightweight accommodation cabin system.
Lloyd’s will carry out Type Approval and MED Certification activities relating to PEC’s ground-breaking new composite cruise ship cabin system.
The LiteCabTM Composite Cabin could revolutionise the cruise sector and was first displayed to the industry at the SMM marine trade show in Hamburg in 2016.
Phase I of the project was co-funded by the UK Government’s ‘Innovate UK’ and DSTL.
A consortium of market leading companies and advisory bodies including Carnival UK, Trimline Limited and Lloyd’s Register have been involved with its design, engineering, manufacturing and fitting out.
This highly innovative cabin is approximately half the weight of a typical present-day cabin and complies with the prescriptive requirements of the IMO FTP Code, thus allowing its installation on SOLAS vessels.
Phase II of the project is currently underway and will lead to the launch of a fully certified cabin and retrofit panel system early in 2019.
