Propulsor tailcone

The composite material structure illustrated is the main strength member of the tailcone assembly which forms part of a submarine propulsor unit.

The components are manufactured individually using bespoke tooling and machined to precise drawing dimensions.

As shown in the picture on the right the basering is mounted on a 2 metre diameter faceplate and the remaining components aligned, fitted and bonded into position. The final machining operation of the complete assembly is then undertaken.

The tailcone structure is the main strength member supporting the syntactic foam moulding which radiates from the central tube to the conical exterior. This maintenance free structure has been designed and manufactured to meet the most demanding environmental specification.
